Detailed Itinerary – 3 Days Luxury Sahara Desert Tour from Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

Your journey begins early in the morning with a private pick‑up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. As you leave the city behind, the landscape slowly changes while driving through traditional Berber villages. The road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views and several scenic stops for photos. You will cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), the highest paved mountain pass in Morocco.

After descending the mountains, you arrive at the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for many famous movies. Enjoy a guided walk through the ancient clay village and learn about its history and architecture. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant overlooking the kasbah. In the afternoon, continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” before driving through the Valley of Roses, famous for its rose products and lush scenery.

As the day ends, you arrive in the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and winding roads. Check in to a luxury hotel or riad, enjoy some free time to relax, followed by a traditional Moroccan dinner and overnight stay in a peaceful mountain setting.

Driving time: approx. 6–7 hours

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, the journey continues through the Dades Valley with stops at impressive viewpoints overlooking the canyon. You then head toward Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most spectacular natural sites, where massive limestone cliffs rise over 300 meters high. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the gorge and along the river, with time for photos and relaxation.

Continue your drive through palm groves, small Berber towns, and desert landscapes as you approach Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and date palms. Along the way, you will notice the scenery becoming more arid, signaling your arrival near the Sahara. In the afternoon, reach Merzouga, located at the edge of the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Here, you switch from vehicle to camel for an unforgettable sunset camel trek across the dunes. As the sun sets, the sand changes color, creating a magical atmosphere. Upon arrival at the luxury desert camp, you are welcomed with traditional mint tea. Enjoy a delicious dinner, followed by Berber music around the campfire, stargazing, and overnight in a private luxury tent with en‑suite bathroom

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Wake up early to witness a stunning sunrise over the Sahara dunes, one of the most memorable moments of the trip. After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 vehicle. The journey back to Marrakech begins with a drive through Rissani, the historic trading center of the region, and then across changing desert and mountain landscapes.

Stop for lunch along the way, enjoying local Moroccan cuisine, before continuing through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains. There will be several short breaks to stretch, take photos, and enjoy the scenery. In the evening, arrive back in Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of an unforgettable 3‑day luxury Sahara experience.
