Magical 6-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

🐪 Sahara Journey: 6 Days from Marrakech to Fes

Embark on a magical Moroccan adventure where every day feels like a scene from a movie. This 6-day journey is more than just travel — it’s a passage through time, landscapes, and deep-rooted traditions. From the vibrant chaos of Marrakech to the peaceful charm of Fes, and through the golden silence of the Sahara Desert, this trip offers authentic Moroccan moments you’ll never forget.

🗺️ Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Adventure begins in Marrakech!

We’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech and begin the scenic drive over the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260 meters). The views are stunning: winding roads, Berber villages perched on hillsides, and snow-capped peaks in the distance.

First major stop: the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient ksar (fortified village) is famous for its mud-brick architecture and has been a filming location for movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch in the area.

Continue through the Valley of Roses (if traveling in spring, it’s full of blooming flowers) to reach the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic gorges and red rock formations.

Overnight in a charming guesthouse with local hospitality, traditional Moroccan dinner, and views over the valley.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga (Sahara Desert)

From rocky canyons to endless sand dunes

After breakfast, we drive through the Dades Gorges, stopping to take in panoramic views and bizarre rock formations, such as the “Monkey Fingers.”

Next stop: Todra Gorges, a spectacular canyon carved by the Todra River. You can enjoy a short hike through the gorge, surrounded by towering cliffs that rise up to 300 meters.

Afternoon: journey towards the desert town of Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara.

Switch to camelback for a magical ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset — a surreal and peaceful experience.

Arrive at your desert camp, where you’ll be welcomed with mint tea and Berber hospitality.

Enjoy a traditional dinner under the stars, followed by live Berber music around the campfire.

Overnight in a private desert tent (standard or luxury options available).

Day 3: Full Day in the Sahara Desert

A deep dive into desert life

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes — a breathtaking moment of silence and beauty.

After breakfast at the camp, spend the day exploring the desert region:

Visit nomadic Berber families and learn about their lifestyle and traditions.

Explore nearby oases and admire the natural beauty of palm trees growing in the sand.

Optional activities: sandboarding, quad biking, or 4×4 desert safari.

Return to camp or stay in a local desert lodge for a different experience.

Enjoy another peaceful night in the Sahara, with more music, storytelling, and stargazing.

Day 4: Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt

Changing landscapes – from sand to cedar forests

Depart the desert after breakfast and drive through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and dates.

Continue along the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s most beautiful palm valleys, offering endless views of palm groves and traditional mud-brick villages.

Stop for photos and lunch along the way.

Arrive in Midelt, a town located between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains — a perfect place to relax and reflect on the desert experience.

Overnight in a cozy hotel or guesthouse with dinner included.

Day 5: Midelt → Ifrane → Fes

Forests, lakes, and the Swiss charm of Morocco

After breakfast, head north through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing by scenic forests and small Berber villages.

Stop in Azrou, home to cedar forests and wild Barbary macaques (monkeys). A short walk in the forest is always refreshing!

Next stop: Ifrane, a unique Moroccan town with European-style architecture, clean streets, and alpine vibes. It’s often called “Little Switzerland.”

Lunch on the way before reaching Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital.

Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your accommodation.

Day 6: Explore Fes (Optional Guided Tour)

A deep dive into Morocco’s oldest medina

If you choose to extend your stay, we highly recommend a guided walking tour of Fes, one of the world’s oldest and most well-preserved medieval cities.

Visit:

Al Quaraouiyine University (the oldest in the world)

The medina’s narrow alleys and souks

Traditional tanneries

Stunning madrasas and artisan workshops

End of the tour — we can arrange airport transfers or further travel if needed.
